Monastery Stables Are The Most Unique Historical Site In The City
Saint Meinrad Archabbey was founded in 1854 by Benedictine monks from Einsiedeln Abbey in Switzerland and is home to 80+ monks who live, work, and pray in a Benedictine monastery. We currently have 11 expositi monks living and working away from the monastery. Father Christian Raab, one expositus, serves as associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jasper, IN, and. Except in designated areas of the monastery, a prayerful quiet pervades the monastery. Each monk's room, or cell as we call it, is also a personal sacred space where he can pray and study the things of. As a community of men of different ages, races, interests and personalities living together in a spirit of unity and love, the monastery stands as witness to the Kingdom yet to come, when all will be.
